Trish MS Research Foundation

Over 2.3 million people live with MS worldwide, and there are over 25,600 people living with MS in Australia. On average more than 10 Australians are diagnosed with MS every week. Three quarters of people with MS are women.

The Trish Multiple Sclerosis Research Foundation was inspired by Trish Langsford who, having lost her battle with multiple sclerosis, passed away at the age of 30.

The Foundation was established with the specific goal of finding a cure or preventive strategy for multiple sclerosis. Trish’s parents made a promise to her that they would not give up until they achieved this goal.

The Foundation is staffed by a team of dedicated, unpaid volunteers and every dollar raised is placed into research.  The Directors of the Foundation cover the administrative expenses.

Since its inception, 20 years ago, the Foundation has raised $5.85 million and funded over 60 MS Research Grants.  Further information can be found at https://trishmsresearch.org.au

Raise Foundation

Raise Foundation is a youth mentoring organisation, providing a trained mentor for more than 6,300 young Australians, and has trained more than 4,800 volunteers from the community to be youth mentors.  In 2021, they are aiming to provide a Raise Mentor for 2,300 young people across NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA.

Raise Foundation has a vision to create a powerful youth mentoring movement creating thriving communities across Australia with the mission to impact youth wellbeing and engagement through early intervention mentoring programs in secondary schools. Raise's purpose is to ensure young people feel heard, valued and supported.

Research shows that quality mentoring greatly increases a young person’s confidence and ability to ask trusted adults for help. After being part of the Raise village, young people are empowered to be resilient, capable and connected and the adults in their lives are skilled to support them.

Slice Avenue would like to encourage you to sign up to be a mentor with Raise Foundation.  You can do this at https://raise.org.au/mentor

Women's Community Shelters

Existing services cannot meet the demand for crisis accommodation for women who are homeless. More than one in two women across Australia who seek a bed in a crisis shelter are turned away every night, mostly due to a lack of space. And these are just the ones who find out they can ask for a safe place to go.

Women’s Community Shelters works with communities to establish new shelters, which provide short term emergency accommodation and support in a safe environment that enables homeless women to rebuild self-esteem and achieve control and fulfilment of their lives.
